In February 2024, the Board and staff of CODE convened to discuss the organization’s strategic plan for 2025-2030. During the meeting, the team revisited CODE’s vision: achieving success in a world where every child can read and write.

In Malawi\'s Ntchisi district, children like 13-year-old Bertha learn on mud floors in classrooms with no doors or windows. Four students share desks meant for two. Bare walls offer no inspiration. And half of all students reportedly drop out by Grades 3 and 4.

This World Literacy Day, September 8th, CODE is thrilled to announce a new partnership with Foglio, a Toronto-based book design and self-publishing company with a passion for bringing stories to life.

Our goal was to encourage literacy among children by providing books written by local authors and assisting in training teachers. Additionally, we aimed to support young women by offering scholarships to help them become teachers.

You may remember two special faces from two of our recent appeals. At the time, we were raising money to help fund critical projects like those bringing change to Patricia and Sallay’s schools.

That’s why we are proud to launch CODE’s 2025–2030 Strategic Plan, a bold and focused roadmap for the years ahead.

The Teaching and Learning in Fragile Contexts Project is working to improve this and is working with teacher training institutes (TTIs) by placing student teachers from the TTIs into schools for practical experience.
