Your kind heart has helped build something truly special in Liberia.
The very first girls from the Girls’ Accelerated Learning Initiative (GALI) are on the verge of graduating from secondary school, and as this unforgettable chapter comes to a close, we want to make sure you know what your support has meant.
Since 2018, CODE has worked in partnership with the WE-CARE Foundation in Monrovia to support more than 3,160 overage girls in their learning journeys. During this time, the high demand and exceptional potential were quickly recognized, and your support helped the project grow to serve a total of 40 schools.
Over the years, GALI was refined and adapted with feedback from teachers, students and other local stakeholders. Attendance challenges were minimized through enhanced parental engagement, introduction of snacks and sanitary pads, while professional development for teachers, introduction of more girl-centric learning materials and mobile learning labs created environments where girls thrived. All of this could happen because of you.
With the help of dedicated teachers and people like you, these girls rose to meet every challenge put in front of them. And now, the final GALI classes have wrapped up their 2025/26 academic year on a high:
- 672 girls (80%) were promoted mid-year and are well on their way to achieving double promotion
- 44 after-school teachers were awarded the national C-Certificate (formal teaching qualification) following their successful completion of the training program
- 15,200 colourful story books were distributed to students
While statistics provide a good measure of success, it’s in the stories and voices of participating girls that we truly see and feel the far-reaching impacts of this transformative program.
