You Did It! Books Are Already in Children’s Hands in Malawi

When you responded to our holiday appeal, you made a promise to children like Bertha, sitting in classrooms with mud floors, broken desks, and bare walls where so many had given up before them. You saw Bertha’s story, and you acted. And because of you, the Let’s Read Ntchisi! project is already delivering on that promise in the most wonderful way.

Brand new books have arrived at all 11 project schools in Malawi’s Ntchisi district. These are 400 colourful, vibrant books per school, covering 40 different engaging titles. For children who have spent years crowding around a single tattered textbook, this will change the way they learn forever.

The books themselves have been carefully chosen to speak directly to the children who will read them. Written mainly in Chichewa, the language these children know and love, they are filled with culturally relevant stories and folktales. They are aligned with Malawi’s national curriculum and designed to build vocabulary, encourage independent reading, and strengthen literacy from the ground up. These are not just books. They are windows into a bigger world, written in a language that says: this story is for you.

The distribution was carefully managed to make sure every single book reached the right hands. Headteachers signed delivery notes confirming the correct quantity and quality of materials at each school, because your generosity deserves to be treated with the utmost care and accountability.

This is just the beginning. The Let’s Read Ntchisi! project is a two-year journey, and the books are the first beautiful chapter. Classroom makeovers, teacher training, colourful learning materials and so much more are on the way, all made possible by supporters like you who chose to show up for children they have never met.

Bertha and her classmates now have books in their hands. They have stories to read, words to learn, and a future that looks a little brighter than it did before your support. Thank you for making this possible. Thank you for believing that every child deserves a classroom where dreams can thrive.

Watch this space! There is so much more joy to come.
