1. Where exactly does my money go?
CODE is thoroughly committed to ensuring that all donations received are accounted for accurately and that the intent of the donor is honoured. All donations earmarked as restricted in support of a specific program or geographic region is allocated as such whereas “unrestricted” or general support offers CODE the opportunity to direct the money to the project or activity of greatest need.
2. How much of my donation reaches CODE’s international development literacy programs?
CODE is exceptionally mindful of maximizing the impact it has with the funding support it receives. As stated in our most recent Annual Report, the 2015-2016 Report Card, and detailed in the Audited Financial Statements, 82.8% of funds received was spent on delivering programming.
3. How much does CODE spend on administration and fundraising costs?
CODE consistently strives to operate in an accountable manner and as a sound steward of its financial resources. As detailed in our Annual Report, the 2015-2016 Report Card, CODE’s costs associated with Administrative expenses represented 8% of its overall budget and Fundraising accounted for 6%.
4. As an international development organization working in fragile and sometimes corrupt states, how does CODE ensure that its financial support reaches its intended purpose?
CODE works with the highest degree of integrity and transparency and benefits from having worked for many years with local, in-country partners it trusts implicitly. Additionally, it has worked to ensure that stringent measures for financial accountability have been put in place, both internally as well as in relation to its in-country program implementing partners in order to effectively monitor, report on impact and ensure fiduciary responsibility. CODE also operates under Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
5. How is CODE addressing the growing issue of cyber security threats and identity fraud?
Cyber security threats and identity fraud have become a new reality, which organizations face in how they operate both domestically and abroad. To address these threats, CODE continues to strengthen a robust system of preventive measures to detect and respond to any potential security incident in a controlled, transparent and timely manner.
6. How is my personal information protected?
CODE takes the issue of privacy very seriously as it relates to personal information which has been entrusted to us. In respecting that trust, CODE is committed to protecting and safeguarding the privacy and security of the personal information through compliance with the Government of Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). Additionally, CODE also adheres to Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL), which serves to ensure that its communications are sent to only those who have indicated they wish to receive it.
