Technology is changing the way people in Ethiopia are learning to read.
You can be part of the magic.
Your support today can have double the impact for thousands of people benefitting from tablet technology, most for the first time.

CODE is engaged in a special partnership with Beyond Access, CODE-Ethiopia, the National Archive and Library Agency, and Ethiopia Reads to provide young readers and their families with an opportunity to gain access to technology (tablets) through community libraries.
Educators, parents, community leaders and librarians all play a vital role in the development of children who not only can read, but who do read. To develop a culture of reading, this program is using technology to develop e-books, reading apps, and games, which provides communities access to a variety of reading tools and materials in supporting the development of new skills and advance learning.
With access to technology, not only are these community libraries becoming a hub for community engagement and development, but are also filling a void in education that schools alone cannot address – an impressive repository of books and learning materials.
Through this partnership, 25 libraries in Ethiopia will benefit from modern resources and spaces for children, families and communities to pursue lifelong learning.
Recently back from Ethiopia, Hila Olyan, CODE’s Director of International programs was part of a tablet training session with 23 librarians - 22 of them using a tablet for the first time. You can read more about this training session in Hila’s blog, but one librarian said it best:
“I stayed up late practicing.” She smiles.
“What did you think?”, Hila follows up.
“How can we get more tablets?” she asks, “I think they will be very popular.”
Donate today to have double the impact and support the innovative use of technology in support of literacy and learning in Ethiopia!
